Junior Backend Developer (AI-Assisted Development)

Role Overview:

We're seeking a motivated Junior Backend Developer who is comfortable working with AI coding assistants (like Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or Claude) to accelerate development. You'll work directly with our CTO to build server-side features, APIs, and data infrastructure while the CTO focuses on architecture and strategic decisions. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a startup environment while leveraging cutting-edge AI development tools.

What You'll Do:

Core Responsibilities

Build and maintain backend services and APIs using Python and modern frameworks
Work with AI coding agents (Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Claude, etc.) to write, debug, and optimize code
Implement RESTful APIs and integrate with frontend applications
Work with databases (SQL and/or NoSQL) to store and retrieve data
Collaborate with the CTO on system design and technical decisions
Write clean, maintainable code following established patterns and best practices
Participate in code reviews and learn from feedback
Implement basic security best practices and data validation
Document APIs and contribute to technical documentation

Daily Activities:

Pair with AI assistants to implement new endpoints and features
Build database schemas and write queries
Debug issues and optimize performance
Integrate third-party services and APIs
Participate in daily standups and sprint planning
Learn and apply new technologies as the platform evolves

Required Skills & Qualifications:

Technical Requirements

Basic proficiency in Python (personal projects, bootcamp, or coursework acceptable)
Comfortable using AI coding tools (Cursor, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, or similar)

Understanding of:

Python web frameworks (FastAPI, Flask, or Django)
RESTful API design principles
SQL databases and basic queries
Git version control basics
JSON and data serialization
Ability to read documentation and learn independently
Problem-solving mindset and attention to detail

Nice to Have:

Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
Familiarity with PostgreSQL or other relational databases
Understanding of authentication and authorization (OAuth, JWT)
Exposure to Docker or containerization
Knowledge of NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Redis)
Previous internship or freelance development experience
Contributions to open source projects or personal portfolio

Education & Experience:

Currently pursuing or recently completed degree in Computer Science, related field, OR equivalent self-taught/bootcamp experience
No formal work experience required - internship level acceptable
Portfolio of personal projects, GitHub contributions, or coursework demonstrating coding ability
